How many courses do I need to take before applying for the State Exam?
You must complete three courses, Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice and an elective before you can apply for the State Exam.

How long will it take for me to be fully licensed?
If you complete the courses in the minimum amount of time and don’t have any delays, you can be licensed in about 5-6 months.

Where is the state exam given and can I chose my location?
The state exam is offered in Fresno, Los Angeles vicinity, Oakland, Sacramento or San Diego. Yes, you do get to specify which of these locations you would like to take your test.

Can I choose my State Exam date?
Yes. You will be able to use the Department of Real Estate's eLicensing system to fill out the application and choose your own examination date.

Will I know my test score right away?
Yes. The state exam is electronic at all locations. You must score a 70% or higher to pass.


What will the DRE charge me to be licensed?
The DRE will charge an examination fee of $60 and a license fee of $245. These fees are paid as you move on to each individual step of the process. You have the option of applying for both the examination and license at the same time, using the eLicensing online portal to apply. Should you choose to use this option, the fee will be $305.

How longe before I have to renew my license?
You will have to renew your license every 4 years. To do so, you must complete 45 hour of continued education.

Must have 3 hours of the following: Agency, Ethics, Fair Housing, Trust Fund Handling and Risk Management
PLUS: Must have 15 hours of Consumer Service and 18 hours of Consumer Protection
– or – 33 hours must be Consumer Protection
